DEVOTIONAL
DO WHAT IS RIGHT IN GOD’S EYES
DEUTERONOMY 12:8
The natural desire we have to fit in and join the crowd jumps off the page in this verse.
We see a buildup of sorts leading up to this as Moses once again instructs the people to carefully follow the Lord’s commands (Deuteronomy 12:1) He then tells them to destroy all the places that had been set up to worship idols and false gods by the nations that currently lived in the land (Deuteronomy 12:2-3).
He knew the dangers of allowing culture to influence the way they worshiped the One True God. He made it known that they must resist the temptation to do whatever they felt was right and to instead do what God was telling them to do.
God is righteous and holy and should be worshiped and honored in a way that sets Him apart from everything else.
The nature of mankind has not changed. We still desire to fit in. We still desire to follow the crowd.
As Christians we are called to be set apart, to stand out, to be different from those in the world. We are called to be in the world but not of the world (John 17:14-18). We want to do whatever we think feels or looks right to us but we must instead look at everything through the eyes of the Lord.
We must filter our actions and the actions of others through the lens of scripture.
By doing this we see that God’s ways are much better than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9) because our ways will lead us away from God and His ways will bring us to Him. (Proverbs 14:12). We must not be influenced by culture but instead should influence culture in a way that reflects the love and hope of the Lord.
MAIN TAKE-AWAY:
Do not let culture influence the worship of God
PRAYER:
Father God, I humbly surrender my life to you in reverence and awe. Please give me boldness and resolve to be set apart from the culture of this world. May I stand strong in your ways as a light tower of hope, reflecting your love, pointing people to you. God thank you for saving my life and giving me purpose. In Jesus’ mighty name I pray, Amen.
Manhood – just doing the next “right” thing. “Right” in God’s eyes not the worlds!
Love God first! Know His Word and follow it.
Married? Honor your vows, period!!! That is what a man does. An immature person breaks those vows!
Kids? Cherish them. Let boys be boys. Let girls be girls. Not wrong, just different. Get to know them and be the primary influencer in building God like character in them. Supporting their individual God given gifts and talents.
Friendship, who is your Timothy and who is your Paul. In other words, who are you mentioning to become more like Jesus? And who is mentoring you to do the same?
Just do the next right thing!!!
