THE FEAR OF THE LORD

Deuteronomy 10:12-13

Moses spoke in boldness and truth to the Israelites about what it is to fear or revere the Lord.

As we read these verses we can gain great insight into the heart posture that we should have toward the Lord.

For those that don’t know God, the realization that when death comes knocking they will meet their Maker, should strike fear into their hearts. The fear of judgment should hopefully drive them into the arms of the Father. This is not the fear of the Lord that true Christians have.

To know the Lord is to fear or revere the Lord. This is a requirement for those that place their faith in Jesus Christ. We do not fear His wrath, instead we stand in awe of His majesty. As Deuteronomy 10:17 shows He is a just and mighty God.

So what does it look like to fear the Lord? We see the answer in Deuteronomy 10:20. To truly fear the Lord is to humble oneself under His authority and to cling to Him, which means to hold on to Him with everything you have.

To fear the Lord is to understand that He is all we really need. He is our Provider and our Protector, He is the stronghold of our life. To fear the Lord is to stand in His presence with arms wide open saying “my life is Yours”.  And we can do this in confidence knowing that He is good and holy, righteous and true.

He will never let us down and He will never leave us.
